30 Rock creator and star Tina Fey went on Jimmy Fallon’s
late night recently, which always provides for great moments between the two
friends and former co-hosts of weekend update on Saturday Night Live. She spoke
a lot about dealing with the ups and downs of working on the last season of the
show 30 Rock, and how she realized she will miss some of the talented people
involved. Imagine being a fly on the wall during brainstorming and comedy
development sessions with the likes of Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, James Marsden,
and Tracy Morgan. The randomness of their conversation topics and tangents must
be endless and constantly impressive to the passers-by. According to Tina Fey
and Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan’s style behind camera and on camera sound virtually
the same, and I’m sure the laughs going during filming are just as loud by the
snack table. Tina Fey’s most intriguing point came from a half-joking,
half-serious comment made about Tracy Morgan’s future. She mentioned that she
was worried about what Tracy Morgan would do without her, and jokingly quipped that
he would die without her. All joking aside, what will Tracy Morgan do?
Let’s face it, Tracy Morgan’s range has never been very
widespread, and he’s basically playing himself on 30 Rock. So what kind of
project could Tracy Morgan possibly find himself in over the next few years?
Surely people will be trying to find him something, and I’m actually surprised
in a way that we haven’t heard anything about a spin-off. Maybe the character
of Tracy Jordan should be in his own show? Or maybe there should be a movie
about making a movie with the famous Tracy Jordan, sort of along the lines of a
Tropic Thunder, where Tracy Jordan looks to expand his range to a different
kind of role. Maybe Tina Fey’s next project will bring him some work. After
all, it does seem like Tina Fey has a kind of maternal instinct for Tracy
Morgan, which is not surprising considering he is not unlike a small child.
Either way, it will be fun to see what Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and the rest of
the crew on 30 Rock end up doing after the show comes to an end. I am certain
their talent can translate into years and years of more laughs on small screens
or big screens.
